R&D of Onboard Safety Avionics Technology to Prevent Turbulence-induced Aircraft Accidents r&d technology



JAXA has been developing “onboard clear-air turbulence detection system” based on Doppler LIDAR technologies. Consisting of detection function, advisory function, and gust alleviation function, the system is designed to detect “invisible” clear-air turbulence in cruise and wind shear on approach. The system could help pilots to better detect and avoid approaching weather disturbances. (February 2018) .
